About the Founder: Arjun Kaur Mittal
Arjun Kaur Mittal, the visionary behind "Her Needs Tanzania," is a student at North London Collegiate School in Dubai. Born in Nairobi in 2008, Arjun spent 10 formative years in Arusha, Tanzania, before moving to Dubai. Despite the change in location, her love for Tanzania and passion for making a difference in her hometown remains as strong as ever.
Arjun’s journey with "Her Needs Tanzania" began when she was just 13, brainstorming ways to give back to the community she cherishes. By the age of 15, she was already executing her project, driven by a deep commitment to improving the lives of young girls in Tanzania.
A Passionate Advocate and Athlete
In addition to her charitable work, Arjun is an avid triathlete who enjoys a wide range of sports. Her passion for empowering young girls is matched by her belief that access to sanitary pads is key to unlocking a better quality of life, including improved education, healthcare, and disease prevention.
Inspired by Family, Motivated by Community
Arjun’s inspiration comes from her mother and the many girls she has had the privilege to interact with throughout her journey. These interactions have fueled her determination to make a lasting impact in her community.

Our Mission
"Her Needs Tanzania" envisions a future where every girl in Tanzania, regardless of her background or economic status, has access to the essential sanitary products she needs to live a healthy, dignified life. We aim to create a society where menstruation is not a barrier to education or personal growth. Our vision is to empower girls by ensuring they can attend school confidently and comfortably, free from the stigma and limitations that menstruation can impose. By fostering an environment where open discussions about menstrual health are normalized, we strive to dismantle the taboos that surround this natural part of life, ensuring that no girl is left behind due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products.
Our Vision
Our mission at "Her Needs Tanzania" is to provide sustainable, long-term solutions for menstrual health and hygiene for every single schoolgirl across Tanzania. We are committed to reaching every girl in secondary schools, starting in Arusha and expanding to other regions reaching the whole of Tanzania, and then beyond. Through the distribution of affordable, reusable sanitary pads, and by raising awareness and educating communities, we aim to address both the practical and societal challenges associated with menstruation. We seek to empower girls by giving them the tools and knowledge they need to manage their menstrual health with dignity, enabling them to pursue their education and aspirations without interruption. Our mission is to ensure that every girl can live up to her full potential, free from the constraints of inadequate menstrual hygiene.
Our Impact
A Proven Track Record in Charity
From a young age, Arjun has been actively involved in charitable initiatives. In 2016, she raised 400,000 TZS for wilderness conservation. The following year, she set up a lemonade stand to raise funds for a home for disabled children in Arusha. More recently, in 2024, she coached a football camp at Simon Primary School for three weeks, working with over 60 kids. Her most significant accomplishment to date is the launch of "Her Needs Tanzania" in 2024.
Impact and Future Vision
To date, Arjun has directly impacted the lives of 20,000 girls and raised 200 million TZS. Her focus now is on inspiring other young girls to create initiatives of their own. She provides guidance and a framework to help them make a broader impact, turning "Her Needs" into a movement that is sustainable and far-reaching.

Looking ahead, "Her Needs Tanzania" aims to encourage and inspire more girls to take up this initiative in their own communities. We believe that empowering young leaders to carry forward this mission will amplify our impact and bring about lasting change across Tanzania and beyond.
